What student guidelines are in place for COVID-19?
Great question, and thank you in advance for understanding. Here are the new measures for students we have implemented:
Advanced registration is required. Students can reserve a class through MindBody up to 7 days prior to the scheduled class. Out of courtesy for your instructor, please cancel 90 minutes prior to the class.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before class. Doors open 20 minutes prior to the scheduled start time and are locked at the start of class. Late entry is not permitted.
Approach the front desk one at a time for a hands-free check-in
You must bring your own props to class as there are no longer shared props
Set out your mat on the marked spots
Please understand that by attending in-person classes, you are voluntarily assuming all risks and agree not to hold Old Town Yoga studio or its employees liable for any resulting illness or injury.
What others measures are in place for COVID-19?
We have also implemented measures to help maintain a safe and healthy environment:
Class sizes are limited
In order to reduce shared surfaces, staff will check in each student
The floor and shared surfaces will be disinfected after each class
Mat markers will be clearly visible
Please maintain social distancing while moving about the studio
Do I need to sign up in advance or just show up?
Please sign up in advance. We have limited class space due to COVID-19 social distancing measures, and signing up in advance is designed to alleviate class capacity issues. You can create your account online through the schedule page and book your desired class up to 7 days in advance.
What do I need to bring/what should I know?
A yoga mat
Any other desired props, such as blocks, bolsters, blankets, etc.
A bottle of water (it is important to stay hydrated before, during and after classes)
A hand towel
A mat towel/beach towel if you are taking a hotter class
Wear comfortable pants and a tank or shirt that fits snugly
Remove your shoes as soon as you enter. There are cubbies near the entrances.
Classes do start promptly, so please arrive at least 15 minutes early. Late entry is not permitted as doors are locked at start of class.
I've never done yoga and feel clueless, intimidated and scared... help!
WE GET YOU! Seriously. We've all been there. Please, please, please, just come. We are super friendly! We will be sure to break everything down and answer all of your questions. Here are some things you should know for your first visit though.
Arrive at least 15 min before class starts so you can settle in
Don't eat 2 hours before class
You are an expert on your own body. Always listen when your intuition tells you something is not right, even if the instructor says otherwise.
What kind of yoga do you practice?
Unless it is otherwise specified, the classes offered will be Vinyasa flows and Power Yoga. Vinyasa yoga is characterized by continuous movements, particularly including vinyasas (a series of four poses) to connect other sections of movement in the class. Sun Salutations are a common component of Vinyasa Yoga, especially for the warm up. Power Yoga is characterized by long holds aimed at building strength, mentally and physically.
What if I am not very flexible?
DEFINITELY COME! In yoga we work on improving flexibility (passive stretching) and mobility (active stretching). Improving your mobility is one of the fastest ways to improve your physical quality of life because it will allow you to do daily functional tasks more easily.
What if I have an injury?
It is critical that you take responsibility for your own well being not only in yoga classes, but in life. Regardless of what a teacher suggests for a pose or sequence, always remember that you are the best expert on your own body. If it does not feel right, do NOT do it. You are encouraged to communicate with your teachers to request suggestions for modifications. However, our teachers are not medical professionals and will not provide medical advice in any capacity.
